1. Product Overview

1,3-Bis[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]urea (abbreviated DMTU or BDAPU) is a high-efficiency, multifunctional reactive tertiary amine catalyst. Its unique dual-tertiary-amine urea structure provides strong gelation selectivity, preferentially accelerating the isocyanate-polyol (urethane) crosslinking reaction while maintaining balanced blowing/gelling kinetics.

Because the urea moiety can reactively bond into the polymer network during cure, DMTU offers low volatility, low odor, and reduced amine migration compared with conventional non-reactive tertiary amines - making it especially suitable for low-emission, indoor-grade polyurethane products.

High selectivity for urethane gelation; precisely controls blow/gel balance, improves cell uniformity, and reduces shrinkage, voids, and surface defects.

Reactive & Low-Emission
Bonds into the polymer matrix during cure; minimizes VOC, amine migration, fogging, and yellowing - ideal for low-odor indoor applications.

Excellent Compatibility
Fully miscible with polyether and polyester polyols; can be used alone or co-formulated with blowing catalysts to fine-tune reaction profiles.

Multi-Industry Versatility
Effective in PU foams, elastomers, coatings, adhesives, epoxy curing, and as an organic synthesis intermediate for polyquaternium and surfactants.


3. Applications & Recommended Dosage

1)Flexible & High-Resilience (HR) Cold-Cure Foams

Automotive seating, furniture cushions, mattresses. Improves foam resilience, cell structure, and demold time.

Dosage: 0.05 – 0.20 php (parts per hundred polyol)


2)Rigid Polyurethane Insulation Foams

Building insulation panels, cold-chain boards, refrigeration. Balances gelation with blowing for uniform density and dimensional stability.

Dosage: 0.10 – 0.30 php


3)Semi-Rigid & Integral Skin Foams

Automotive interior parts, instrument panels, armrests, steering wheels. Enhances surface quality and reduces pinholes.

Dosage: 0.10 – 0.25 php


4)PU Elastomers, Coatings & Adhesives

Two-component PU adhesives (footwear, automotive structural), protective coatings, cast elastomers. Accelerates cure and improves crosslink density.

Dosage: 0.05 – 0.50 % by resin weight


5)Epoxy Resin Curing Accelerator

Latent accelerator in electronic encapsulation and composites; optimizes exotherm curve and lowers curing temperature.

Dosage: 0.3 – 1.0 % by resin weight


6)Organic Synthesis Intermediate

Raw material for polyquaternium-2 (hair/skin care polymers), surfactants, polyimide catalysts, and electroplating additives.
